Subject: [Cogsci-faculty] [Cogsci] International Spatial Cognition Summer
Institute (ISCSI 2013) at UCSB this August
Dear Colleagues and Students,
Professor Mary Hegarty and I, along with colleagues elsewhere, are
organizing the multidisciplinary International Spatial Cognition Summer
Institute (ISCSI 2013) to be held this summer on our UCSB campus. These two
consecutive one-week summer schools feature courses by internationally known
instructors on spatial cognition from many disciplinary perspectives,
including scholars in psychology, geography and cartography, computer and
information sciences, neuroscience, architecture, and linguistics. Week 1
is August 11-17; Week 2 is August 18-25. The weekly course and instructor
list is attached (Also see http://iscsi.spatial.ucsb.edu/
<http://iscsi.spatial.ucsb.edu/> ).
ISCSI 2013 will present two consecutive week-long events consisting of
intensive lectures, tutorials, and student presentations on spatial
cognition, the study of spatial perception, thinking, reasoning, and
communication by humans, nonhuman animals, and computational entities such
as robots. The 2013 Institute is primarily aimed at graduate students,
postdoctoral students, and early-career researchers and academics with a
strong interdisciplinary interest in spatial cognition research, but others
may also attend.
We have room for a few more local people who would like to attend. We are
still ironing out some budget details, but the cost for local people will be
very minimal, if anything.
Please contact me if you are interested in attending.
Sincerely,
Dan Montello
