Hi everyone,

For this Friday I thought we could look at this (very short) book called
"How to Run a Paper Mill" by John Woodwark (attached). I understand if you
don't have time to read all of it, although it is pretty humorous and fun
to read. It is a guide to "running a paper mill" i.e. publishing lots of
papers. I think the advice is a bit over the top, but we can figure out
together what is reasonable and what is not. I would suggest reading at
least chapters 3, 4, and 5. Chapter 4 is the most controversial I would
say :)

I also attached an article about how to improve your technical writing. I
don't agree with everything in there but I think most of it is good to keep
in mind when writing.

Feel free to send around other articles you think would be good to share on
the topic of picking research topics or writing good papers.

See you on Friday at 1pm in the MAT conference room.
