Folks,
The lab open house – part of the MAT End of Year Show – will be on Friday, May 19th (typically around 5-9pm). For anyone new to the lab this year, this is a big event, with hundreds of people showing up to see what MAT is showing off (most of the MAT students are exhibiting their work) and what the Four Eyes Lab has been doing. If you are a research affiliated with the lab, you should plan on displaying one or more of your research projects at this event.
These are typically demos of your research that either let people experience your technology or view an explanation of your research with examples (physical and/or video). While PowerPoint slides alone may not generally be preferable, in some cases that is appropriate.
In addition to the cutting-edge research that many of you are doing, we can also exhibit more generic things related to the focus of the lab. For example, last year people really enjoyed just getting to try the HoloLens. For some of you who are involved in the lab but won’t have research to show off yet, you can consider participating by doing something like that.
We need to identify what projects we’ll include and provide information to the MAT organizers about these by April 10th (or so). Please start thinking about what you can show/demo/present/explain at the Open House – we’ll follow up soon to start gathering a list. Meanwhile, see the attached info about what MAT needs from us.
Thanks,
Matthew

Subject: [MAT-announce] [EoYS] Call for Submissions
Dear Community,
The call for submissions for the End of the Year Show (EoYS) 2017 starts today, March 19th, and will continue through April 10th at 11:59 pm.
The theme of this year’s show is “Re-habituation”; reference for the theme can be found in Guideline document. We invite you to interpret the theme, use it as inspiration, or make it your own. Please submit your work, completed or in progress, the earlier the better for planning and designing the event media.
In addition to proposals for exhibition or performance, we will also be accepting original written content for publication in an accompanying catalogue to the show.
We welcome submissions in a variety of forms, including projects, performances, presentations, poetries, articles, and essays. Please carefully read the Guideline document in the attachment and follow the instructions for submission.
This year’s EoYS 2017 will be a remarkable opportunity to display, publish and to engage with your colleagues in an exciting exhibition event.
It is encouraged that you meet with your advisor and committee members to help guide your submission(s). All students can submit as an individual artist and/or as part of a collaborative team. You may want to consider registering for MAT courses in the Spring Quarter that will help facilitate inspired works. Please consult with Professor Marko Peljhan for further guidance on MAT course selection for Spring 2017.
Reminder the final deadline for all proposals is Monday, April 10th, 2017, at 11:59 pm.
Please send required PDF document and other materials as attachments to the email address at <mailto:eoys at mat.ucsb.edu> eoys at mat.ucsb.edu. In the subject line of your email, please put “[Submission]” + “Your Name(s)”. If the file(s) is larger than 25mb, please use UCSB Box ( <https://ucsb.account.box.com/login> https://ucsb.account.box.com/login) and share the link to the email address at <mailto:eoys at mat.ucsb.edu> eoys at mat.ucsb.edu.
Important:
All projects to be proposed for the AlloSphere are required to be reviewed by Dr. JoAnn Kuchera-Morin before submission.
We are still looking for volunteers for EoYS 2017. If you are interested, please contact one of the EoYS team members.
We look forward to the collaboration of the entire MAT community to help make this year’s show successful.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Good luck on finals!
