FYI, Prof. George Legrady in Media Arts and Technology is teaching a
project-oriented course on data visualization in the winter, and interested
CS students are welcome. Please see the attached info and contact George if
you have any questions.

Subject: M259 Data Vis course Winter 2014 Tues-Thurs 2-4pm

Dear Tobias and Matthew,

Every winter I teach a production course in data visualization. Students
realize 4-5 projects with the same dataset (currently at around 75million).
Their job is to engage in "knowledge discovery" and then to translate the
results into a meaningful visualization. In ten weeks we cover a lot:

1) how to identify and retrieve significant data from a dataset with MySQL

2) Develop skills in the fundamentals of visual language through programming

3) Visualize abstract data to reveal patterns and relationships

4) Normalize data to enhance legibility and coherence

5) Implement interactivity within 3D volumetric visualization

I am always interested in having students from a diverse range of
disciplines take this course as it creates interesting interactions.

Please circulate the attached course description to your colleagues and
students.

Very best,

George
