How do we represent the geometry of the world in computer graphics
applications: an overview of geometric modeling
Computer graphics tackles the problem of representing the geometry of
the world in a discrete computational setting (your computer). But
what is the best representation for your couch, your house, your city,
or the clouds in the sky? This talk will provide an overview of the
general representations of geometric objects for computer graphics
applications and the implications of those representations for
downstream computations like animation and rendering. This talk will
also explore the implications of geometric representations for
graphics hardware and for artists working with those representations.
Data acquisition of real world models will also be addressed.
