Florian, my project manager at Citrix, just sent me the Synergy demo of the work that I did with him over the summer. It was presented in front of ~4000 people at the conference in Barcelona and went pretty well (albeit awkward at times). I thought it was cool to see it get that kind of exposure.
A little about the project:
The goal of the project was to refine the depth mask that a kinect gives, in order to segment the presenter from the background. Because of noise and the low resolution of the Kinect sensor, the depth mask that's originally given is blocky and inaccurate. Materials that reflect IR light or are too fine to pickup a depth value (e.g. hair) were also taken into consideration. Having this new mask allows the user to more naturally present their material as if it were projected onto a screen behind them. Additionally, it allows them to share their screen with another user in order to copresent something as if they were in the same room.
