Subject: Post doc / research engineer openings at Intel Labs Pittsburgh

Hi Matt,

Do you have recent graduates looking for a job? If so, Intel Labs
Pittsburgh has two immediate openings for postdoc positions -- one
involving 3D human pose estimation and action recognition, and the
other involving video analytics for camera-equipped digital signs.

Ideally we're looking for recent PhDs with machine vision background
to lead these exciting research projects, but outstanding candidates
with masters or bachelors degrees will also be considered. A general
description of the positions is included below, and more information
about the exciting research happening at our lab is available at our
website (http://www.pittsburgh.intel-research.net/).

If you know of anyone from your lab or elsewhere who'd be interested
and qualified for these positions, please let me know, or encourage
them to contact either me or Dean Pomerleau
(dean.a.pomerleau at intel.com) directly.

Thanks,
Rahul

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Job Description:

Intel Labs Pittsburgh is seeking a skilled software engineer / postdoc to
develop prototypes and enabling infrastructure for a research project
in computer vision and human activity recognition. The primary role
of this position is to work with researchers to define and deliver
real-time prototype software. The work includes collaborating on the
definition of software development efforts, collecting requirements,
architecting the software, developing the code, creating
documentation, and deploying a working system. The effort will require
collecting data and using this data to learn models for human activity
recognition. This is a one year position with the potential for extension,
with
an anticipated starting date of February, 2011.

The ideal candidate would possess a PhD degree in Computer Science,
Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited
university, but exceptions can be made to outstanding candidates with
a Bachelor of Science or Masters degree. Experience with using,
managing, and developing for Linux/UNIX systems is a must. The
ability to develop significant software projects must be demonstrated.
Applicants must be able work independently as well as in small groups
and to approach problems creatively. To be successful, the candidate
should be self-motivated and possess a strong desire to exceed
expectations. Additionally, applicants must be able to communicate
clearly, both orally and in writing.

Desirable skills include the following:

- Deep knowledge of programming, particularly C/C++, Java, Python and Matlab
- Knowledge of PC system architecture and the Intel instruction set
architecture
- Experience with computer vision including OpenCV or Matlab image
processing
- Experience with Linear Algebra
- Ability to construct engaging user interfaces

Familiarity or experience with the following is not required but would
also be desirable:

- Machine Learning
- Motion capturing or motion modeling
- Developing for robotic systems, including ROS
- Network programming, sockets, RPC systems, web protocols
- Cloud computing technologies such as Amazon Web Services and Hadoop
- Parallel programming models such as pthreads, MPI, and OpenMP
