Hi,
As part of a patent application that we are working on, I will be one of two
speakers at the Office of Research technology council meeting later today.
The focus of the meeting is on commercializing various research from UCSB.
I will be talking about commercial aspects of our graph toolkit (WiGis).
Most of you have heard my talk many times already, but the other one should
be novel. Details below.
cheers
-John
ps: some the attached documents were prepared by the Office of Research, I
am sending them as is.

Dear all:
Our next meeting of the Technology Council is set for *February 23, 2010
from 4 - 6 p.m in Room 1003 of the Engineering Sciences Building (ESB)* - we
are looking forward to working with you again!
Both of the inventors that presented at our last meeting appreciated the
insights you provided and have taken them to heart and enjoyed the
experience of presenting to the group. I have no doubt that our next two
presenters will find the discussion just as helpful.
We are going to feature two interesting inventions that we need your
insights on -- one in the medical device arena and one in the computer
space. I have attached a briefing sheet and articles for each for your
information.
*Dr. Frank Doyle* will be presenting his work developing algorithms that
would allow for a continuous, automatic insulin pump system for diabetics,
as well as a platform to streamline and improve the safety of clinical
trials for insulin pump systems. This technology has received considerable
attention, but we would love your insights on how to position it for
successful commercialization. Because his technology involves a suite of
potential products/algorithms, I have attached several articles which each
discuss various aspects of his research.
*Dr. John O'Donovan* will present research from the research group of Dr.
Tobias Hollerer. They have developed a web search system that allows very
large data sets to be presented in a large graph format, rather than relying
on text-based search results. This work has also been the subject of a
recent publication, which is attached.
I believe most of you are already familiar with the conference area of the
ESB Building, but if you have not yet attending an event there, a campus map
is at: http://www.aw.id.ucsb.edu/maps/. Parking is available right nearby
in Lot 10 (the parking structure between CNSI and ESB). As with last time,
if you need a parking permit, please contact our office manager, Tish Ramos,
who is cc:'d on this message. Light appetizers and refreshments will be
served.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need anything further. See you
next week!
Sincerely,
Sherylle
