Mine is an assistive device, currently with no invasive technology.

I envision a relationship with UCSB as a source for a research study for the User Experience, and a Efficacy Study for the Device in each field of it's use. There are 5 Primary uses, the first two being Light Conversion & Manipulation to assist those with some loss of sight, and Sound Conversion and Enhancement through Digital and Conductive Modalities to Assist those with Hearing Loss.

I suggest that we provide the equipment and UCSB provide the Research Study, to include subjects, a quantitative study platform of questions to define the User Experience while using the equipment in a number of circumstances, and recommendations to improve the results on the patients, as well as recommendations to achieve optimum results from the equipment.

Secondly, I would like to pursue the possibilities of drawing upon the resources of UCSB to make the product better. If UCSB has Intellectual Property which can improve the product, we would like to explore licensing and collaboration on whatever we would like to use. For instance, if a department develops software for us we can either support the Department with a flat fee, or a fixed amount for each unit sold.

This may be good for all concerned as the other uses of the device include Frequency/wavelength sensing and manipulation device, Ladar, heat/chemical & shape identification, linguistics and Artificial Intelligence.

But let's start with a Study to see how well we assist people with seeing and hearing .

I hope this gives you a better idea. I'm nearby, so I'm happy to meet with Professors whom you may have in mind for me to answer questions for. Please feel free to call if you have any questions which need a quick answer.

Best regards,

Phil

805 766 1261

Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2015 22:40:44 -0800
Subject: Re: New Year follow up
From: renweichen1@gmail.com
To: seiflein@hotmail.com

Hello Phil,
I am sorry not to response your email sooner. Your work are certainly very important. As for the vision, several research groups working on AMD using stem cell therapy. I am not clear what you are looking for from UCSB? collaboration?
best regards,
Renwei

(more info on device- edited for non-related information)
I hope all is very well so far in the new year, and that everything is fitting together nicely for you in your endeavors. So here's news on the Sensory Enhancement Device.

We've been funded for our prototypes based on my very rough "proof of concept model" and are awaiting one of our "demo model" prototypes to be finished. We'll have another one or two made when we find research facilities to test user experiences.
We'll use these basic demo's to establish final ingredients for our first prototypes, and after field testing for a month we'll start taking orders and go into production of the final version 1 model. It will have 1 or 2 of the Sensory Enhancement capabilities operating in V.1.

We've had several non-profit organizations say that they'd love to assist their clients with this device but they'd either have to see a study or have the final product being manufactured before they could start ordering. Thus, our focus on getting the prototypes and lab testing done.

I think this is where your help could be greatly appreciated in the guidance of this wonderful project. Do you know if any part of UCSB can do something for/with this project? I'm aware that it let's it's researchers know where funds are available,
1. but how do I find a PhD, or Professor to apply, and do the research?
2. Can it be paid for through research study grants?
3. Also, the UC system may have researched and patented things that may be close enough in description to support some of my claims. How do I get access to UC IP library to see if there's things to license?

Here's some information about the product I'm working on.

As a Sensory Enhancement Device it's very different than anything else out there. The key areas are sound, light manipulation, shape identification, frequency (wavelength), chemical identification, and a Universal method for Braille and Sign languages.

We use several types of headsets to sense sound/light/shape/ chemical and heat signatures of animate and inanimate objects. Through a number of sensors, this information is sent to a computerized onboard data base, identified, and relayed through electronic signals and equipment, back to the user, in a meaningful form of communication. This communication can take a number of forms, not limited to sound, pulse, vocal, images, manipulated light, and alarms.

Example: a chemical substance is noted through a sensor monitoring air quality. Data on it is sent to the data base, it's matched with know compositions, and a probability index relays the information to the user audibly through earphones, or visually through lcd message text.

Example: Sound: A user is hard of hearing. The sound sensor (mic) send the data to the processor, the data is transformed through a pre-set optimal sound EQ settings for that user so that the user can best understand it, and it is sent to the user via earphones, conductive sound, pulse, light signals, or other forms or meaningful communication.

Example: Vision: The same goes for a very sophisticated means of using failing photo-receptors in the retina and fovea relay. The sensors interpret a combination of data, draw on a data base and AI, relay the data to the user in a number of meaningful methods like enhanced images, special effects, sound, pulse or verbal instruction.

We're going into the permanent patent now, and are preparing for marketing.

Step one is get a working model to several testing centers to record the User Experience on one of the key areas. We will probably go with Sound & Light.

My questions are "Are there researchers looking/hoping for a study like this?" "Are there funds for research studies on the efficacy of a project like this?"

I hope this wasn't too much data, but I thought you'd like as much of an overview as possible in order to arrange your thoughts on this. I have a Dream Team of remarkable staff all volunteering their time until this needed project gets made and funded.

So, here's a start. Please let me know what you think the possibilities are and what you need next. I happy to come to UCSB for a meeting at any time.

Thank you, so much, for being there!

Best regards,

Phil Seiflein

805 766 1261

--
Renwei Chen, M.D., Ph.D.
Assistant Project Scientist to Mellichamp Chair Cluster
Center for Bioengineering, Elings Hall 2223
UC Santa Barbara, CA 93106, USA
Reply ▼
Delete More ▼

Phillip
Options Sign out PC site
© 2015 Microsoft
Privacy Terms Report abuse
