Hey everyone,<div>Please consider submitting a paper to the GSWC workshop. Steffen and I are on the committee and it is honestly a great experience.</div><div><br></div><div>Last year I won first place in the poster presentation, and it was not only great to win $$$, a really cool backpack, interact with researchers from Microsoft doing also work in social computing, it also felt great to beat the security lab, archlab,etc. It was great to show that the research done in the four eyes lab is of course of the very best! </div>

<div>Computing (GSWC) 2013 which will be held on Friday, October 4th.</div>
<div><br></div><div>The DEADLINE for submission is JULY 5th.</div><div><br></div><div>For those of you who are new to GSWC, it is a workshop sponsored by</div><div>the Computer Science Department where graduate students showcase their</div>
<div>research work. This entails not only publishing an abstract of your</div><div>current research in the workshop proceeding, but also potentially</div><div>presenting your work to your fellow graduate students, faculty, and</div>
<div>guests from industry (either through a presentation or poster</div><div>depending on the quality of your abstract). We are also looking for representation from nearby universities, in the hope to create an environment in which graduate students can get to know each other, learn about new projects, and exchange cool research ideas.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Graduate students are called to submit a 2-PAGE ABSTRACT describing</div><div>recent and continuing work. Work in all areas of computing are</div><div>welcome, and your abstract should be accessible to the majority of the</div>
<div>department.</div><div><br></div><div>Submissions should strictly follow the IEEE 2-column LaTeX format</div><div>(http:<a href="http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting" target="_blank">www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting</a>) and be submitted</div>
<div>as PDFs. The name of the authors should be included in the submitted PDF. </div><div>Submissions have to follow these guidelines or will be rejected.</div><div><br></div><div>Submissions should be made to <a href="http://mamet.cs.ucsb.edu/" target="_blank">http://mamet.cs.ucsb.edu/</a>.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Acceptances to GSWC will come in the form of:</div><div><br></div><div>- Proceedings: Your abstract will appear in the workshop proceedings</div><div>(this is applicable to all accepted papers).</div>

- Presentation: You will be further selected to do a presentation on</div><div>your abstract.</div><div>- Poster: Your poster will be displayed with an opportunity to discuss</div><div>your work during the formal poster session.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Cash prizes have already been secured and will be awarded for best</div><div>abstract, presentation, and poster!</div><div><br></div><div>As usual, the GSWC will be followed by the CS Fall BBQ.</div><div>
<br></div><div>GSWC is designed to bring you the experience of attending and presenting at a top-tier conference in computer science. Participate in order to gain critical skills in showing your research. Practice makes perfect, and where better to do so than in our</div>
<div>supportive environment :)</div><div><br></div><div>Additionally, GSWC adopts a theme each year and invites discussion on</div><div>that theme from both an academic perspective and an industry</div><div>perspective. We invite a keynote speaker, and have members of the industry to serve on a panel to discuss that</div>
<div>topic, followed by Q&A. Over the last years GSWC has established as a great venue for interaction with industry and looking for internships. The theme of this year's workshop will be announced in the next months. Submitted abstract can pertain any topic in computer science, and do not need to be relevant to the workshop's theme.</div>
