And we are increasingly embedded in digital environments. These computing environments limit old but enable new input-output affordances. Utilizing these affordances requires us to move beyond traditional ways of expressing human intention. In this talk I argue that expanding the utilization of human capabilities is the path forward to realizing the imminent interaction challenges of ubiquitous and immersive computing. Through a series of projects, I will show how novel interactions can be built by expanding the use of human tactile and kinesthetic abilities for wearable and mixed reality devices. I will further talk about the implications of this approach for building interactions for accessibility. _Bio_: Aakar Gupta is a postdoctoral research scientist at Facebook Reality Labs, Redmond. His work focuses on building interactive technologies that create a synergy between human capabilities and computing affordances. His research has resulted in multiple publications at CHI and UIST, the premiere HCI conferences, including two Honorable Mention Awards at CHI. Prior to joining Facebook, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Waterloo. He completed his PhD from the University of Toronto in 2017, and his Master?s from the University of Toronto in 2012. He has collaborated with multiple industrial and institutional labs including internship stints at IBM Research, INRIA, France, and Microsoft Research.
