Dear Elings Hall Occupants,

We are having issues with cracked storm drain pipes in Elings Hall. Facilities Management are in the process of replacing a few damaged pipes, but I wanted to alert you to a specific issue we have had today on the second floor of Elings Hall.

Water was literally raining down from the storm drain on the second floor.  Plumbers from Facilities have identified the cracked pipe and are working to plug the problem until it is fixed.  A lot of water poured into the second floor lab hallway during the strong rain bursts. 
The custodians were on site and cleaned up the water each time. However, I worry about the water possibly seeping down to the first floor, especially while our building's custodians may not be on campus.

Please check your labs.  Additionally, I would recommend that you consider covering your equipment when it is not in use or when a large amount of rainfall is expected.

If you identify a problem overnight, please report maintenance emergencies and safety issues to Campus Police Dispatch at 805.893.3446 plus let Bob Hanson (bhanson at cnsi.ucsb.edu) and me (woo at cnsi.ucsb.edu) know about the issue.

We recognize this is a major problem and are working with Facilities to address it.  We appreciate your patience and assistance in identifying and correcting any problems.
