Hi Cadu,
Welcome to UCSB!
It has been about a year since I graduated, but I hope that the information below helps you find a good place to stay during your visit.
Best regards,
Byungkyu (Jay)

I would like to share some information with you to help you find a neat place to stay here.
- UCSB Family Student Housing (http://www.housing.ucsb.edu/family-students/general-information)
If you can provide proof of family status as well as University affiliation to the housing office, you’re eligible to apply. Please note that you need to apply as soon as possible if you want to get approved before your arrival date. (approximate cost: $1500~$1750 for non-student tenants [AS OF 2015])
- Encina Meadows Apartments (http://www.encinameadows.com/)
One of the most popular housings for UCSB visitors. If you have children, this might be a better choice since the apartment is located close to a good-ranked school district and many convenient market places. (1bed 1bath: $1,975-$2,325)
- Dearborn Green Apartments (http://www.apartmenthomeliving.com/apartment-finder/Dearborn-Green-Apartments-Goleta-CA-93117-61701?O_PK=_cat:apartmenthomeliving.com&cmp=G_DSA&gclid=Cj0KEQiA1qajBRC_6MO49cqDxbYBEiQAiCl5_Cp_UbPay9rGq1Vq7olkCHuJNmMV_dzkKMf0xeIg9r8aAr3G8P8HAQ)
A mid-level apartment close to the campus. This one is located in bike-able distance from the campus and comparatively cheap.
- Sesame Tree Apartments (http://www.apartmentratings.com/ca/goleta/sesame-tree-apartments_805968254993117/)
Good location (another one in bike-able distance, very close to the campus) and good price. However, the apartment is a bit old and you might be able to hear some noise from a near-by construction site. This is just my guess. I personally liked this one.
- Ellwood Beach Drive / Mathilda Drive (Please refer to the attached map)
This one might be of your interest if you like to jog everyday morning/evening. On these two streets parallel to each other, there are quite a few small-sized apartments. Most of them do not have their own websites. I’ve lived in this town for a year with my wife before moving into the family housing. Very close to the beach. Not expensive. You need to check out the available housings when you arrive here, if you’re interested in this area.

Jay

Hi everyone,
My name is Carlos Eduardo (Cadu), I'm a PhD student at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and hopefully I'll be joining you by September to develop part of my research project there, learn a lot and collaborate in the best way possible with you.
Right now I'm still trying to find a place reasonably close to UCSB. Prof. Turk recommended me to reach you guys, so if you have any tip or information for me regarding housing there, I'd really appreciate it.
Feel free to get in touch with me anytime.
See you soon,
Cadu
