Subject: Power Shutdown Update
Thank you for all the productive feedback you've been sending. This is what I can say about the proposed outage at this time: The Project Manager is looking into the option of a Saturday schedule, but there are numerous hurdles to address still and I am not fully confident this will be possible. Another alternative is to consider a T-W-Th (22-23-24) option for the outage. While this does not solve everyone's problem is does solve some that I am aware of. If one of these days would also work better for you and you haven't already let me know, please do so as soon as possible.
Lastly, the best estimate available for the duration of the outage is 8 hrs. I will have to use email updates on the fly to give anything more useful for those who need to monitor the switches to and from e-power.
FM technicians will be on hand to ensure power, HVAC, compressors, DI, etc. return to normal service. For those wondering, walk in cold rooms are on e-power.
The issue of idle staff and researchers is not an easy one to resolve.
If some of you global thinkers have a suggestion, please share it with me (but please don't start a 60-way dialogue with reply all). Some ideas already include: work remotely, take a vacation day, reschedule events, . . . We will post our plans once we decide on a schedule.
One last thought: While this is the 4th or 5th solar panel project on campus, we are the first exclusively research oriented building to be impacted by the inevitable shutdown, so some of the challenges we face have not been addressed before. We appreciate everyone's help and patience in getting through this major event.
Regards,
Bob
Original message:
A power outage is proposed for August 21st, Monday, starting at 6:00am and lasting all day to allow contractors to plug in the newly assembled solar panels on lot 10 to the switch gear at the north end of our building. Only emergency power circuits will be available to power established emergency loads in the building - please do not switch non-essential loads to e-power during this time frame; risks to all e-power loads could occur. It would be wise to be on hand during the initial switch over (6am to 8am) to ensure your e-power loads are operating correctly. All normal power loads should be powered down by 6:00am Monday the 21st to avoid inadvertent damage that may occur during power switching.
If you have particular concerns about this outage please contact me as soon as possible. Please pass the word to your groups.
