Dear Professor Turk,

Nice to meet you and hope you are well. I’m a UCSB alumnus, who recognizing your background felt compelled to reach out.

Briefly, I’m working to understand the feasibility of developing a mobile app that utilizes deep learning object recognition to allow users (in our case outdoor sport enthusiasts) to engage with a video, perhaps a surf video, to touch, for instance the surfboard, at any point in the video the board appears, and this surfboard (as accurate as brand and model) would then add to the user’s virtual shopping cart.

As I suppose, object recognition could certainly help limit the laborious process of human tagging of video content.

Would greatly appreciate if you could connect me with anyone you know at UCSB who has interest/expertise in this area… and who might have any interest in discussing further.

Many thanks,

Derek
