I am Vincent with the Matterport team here in Sunnyvale, CA.

 

One of our vision researchers tells me your influential work in camera tracking and augmented reality is particularly relevant to us, which is our primary focus as a company. I'm working on expanding our research team here at Matterport, and I thought one or more of your students might be interested in joining us for an internship or full-time position after graduating.

Matterport has created a low-cost panoramic camera and 3D reconstruction platform that enables everyday users to scan large interior spaces quickly and easily.  Our customers have scanned over 200,000 locations all over the world, which has provided us the world's largest collection of 3D RGBD images (with corresponding camera poses)--over 200 million individual images with 6 DoF pose.  This dataset provides an incredible test bed for researching now methods in structure from motion, multi-view stereo, monocular SLAM, and semantic 3D reconstruction.  

 

If you have any students graduating in the next 9 months that may be interested, please consider forwarding this email to them.  I think they’ll find that the impact they can have at a mid-stage startup like ours (whose priority #1 is computer vision) is quite dramatic.  Also, if you ever wanted to chat yourself about some of those problems we're tackling, I can put you in touch with one of our vision researchers for an informal chat.
