Subject: Computer Graphics Faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania

Dear Matthew:

The Computer and Information Science Department at the University of Pennsylvania has an immediate tenure track opening for candidates at any level with outstanding research records in the area of computer graphics, broadly defined. Candidates with expertise in machine learning, computer vision, or the digital humanities will be given especially strong consideration. We would like to interview potential candidates in Fall 2016 for appointment as early as January (Spring
term) 2017. This note is to personally solicit possible candidates, such as your own PhD students or PostDocs, looking for academic positions.

The Computer Graphics research enterprise at Penn includes two research
Centers: Human Modeling and Simulation (HMS) and Digital Visualization (ViDi). The SIG Center for Computer Graphics in the Moore Building is the shared physical space occupied by the computer graphics programs.
It houses a Vicon motion capture system, various biosensors, VR and AR devices, computing resources, as well as a conference room and other amenities. An on-site staff Associate Director shared with the CIS Department provides administrative assistance and lab management.

The CIS Department has a highly rated undergraduate Digital Media Design engineering degree program, and a nationally-acclaimed Masters in Computer Graphics and Game Technology. A successful candidate should have a strong interest in teaching courses appropriate for these programs. Collaborative opportunities abound, including the GRASP Laboratory, the Price Digital Humanities Lab, the Medical School and its Hospitals, and other research Centers and Institutes across the geographically compact Penn campus.

Interested candidates should contact me for further information. I will be at SIGGRAPH 2016 to meet potential candidates so we can explore interests and options.

I look forward to hearing from you.
