H2O is a company that builds software for people doing machine learning and data science. They are planning to come to campus on April 7, 8, or 9 to demo their product and discuss their data science fair competition. (See the email stream below.)
If you’re interested in attending, please contact Diana Antova, the director of Data Services in Student Information Systems and Technology in Student Affairs at UCSB (Diana.Antova at sa.ucsb.edu).

Hi Diana -
In short, we will be demo-ing the product, giving some examples to people about what our product can do and then introducing the data science fair. The whole talk should take about 1 hour and then we'll open it up for questions later.
We can provide pizza as well for dinner. I have reattached the data science fair competition flier which you are free to forward on to others.
Thanks!
Alex

Hi Alex,
We contacted professors in our Computer Science department and one of them is asking for more details about the meetup. Will you be demoing the product, talk about this science fair? Let us know what you are planning for this visit.
Thanks,
Diana

Diana,
Thanks for the info regarding H2O. Although I am not available on the dates you mentioned, I’d like to better understand what the presentation will be about – is it about the science fair (which I assume H2O is running and sponsoring), about their product, or both?
Thanks,
Matthew Turk

Hello,
I am the director of Data Services in Student Information Systems and Technology in Student Affairs at UCSB and we are exploring machine learning and predictive analysis to help with the analysis of student data. We connected with H2O, <http://docs.h2o.ai/> http://docs.h2o.ai/ at the Strata Hadoop Data conference in San Jose this year. They have a machine learning product and are starting a college initiative, encouraging students to develop their own machine learning applications.
Some members of their team will be at USC on April 8 to introduce the data science fair to students to showcase their machine learning application at the H2O world conference in September. They have offered to come to UCSB to present on April 6, 7 or 9.
We saw on your web site about the work you are doing in this area and wanted to connect with you to see if there is interest. You can see forms attached for applying to the science fair.
Please let us know if you or any of your students would be interested in attending a presentation on April 6, 7, or 9 and we will coordinate it.
Thank you,
Diana

Hi everyone,
As Alex mentioned in our call this afternoon, we are starting a college initiative, encouraging students to develop their own machine learning applications and I have attached the flyers and application form for this initiative. Alex will holding Meetups in Southern California the week of April 5th at USC and UCLA and we just wanted to let you know about these events.
Our Meetups are usually presentation-based, followed by a Q & A session.
Thanks for your time this afternoon!
