Visual Effects in the 21st Century
Monday, May 12, 2014 / 4:00 PM
McCune Conference Room Humanities and Social Science Building

In the 20th century, film became a pervasive form of media. Many
technologies aided this spread, including computer generated images (CGI).
In this talk, I look back at the genesis of CGI, examine their present
state (including my own research), and try to extrapolate into the future.
What did CGI enable that would otherwise have been impossible? Was it
democratizing or plutocratizing? Have we already seen everything that CGI
can do? What will movies look like in 100 years?
