Looks interesting, and it might be relevant to some of the lab's research.

Campus (Dec 11-12)

 Dear Colleagues,

The Center for Spatial Studies is organizing a specialist research meeting
on Advancing the Spatially Enabled Smart Campus to be held December 11–12,
2013 at the Upham Hotel in Santa Barbara, CA.

We anticipate hosting 30 researchers from industry as well as academia to
participate in an open discussion on possibilities for transforming campus
environments to better serve their educational and civic functions.
Invitees will represent a broad range of disciplines and professions that
can offer guidance and inspiration to campus planners and leaders.

Plenary sessions and small-group discussions will explore applications of
geographically based sensor networks, related information and communication
technologies, web-based volunteered geographic information, and design
technologies for use in building environmentally and socially sustainable
campuses that encourage learning, productivity, and responsiveness to the
needs of different institutional environments. The attached flyer and the
webpage for the meeting (http://www.spatial.ucsb.edu/events/ASESC/) provide
more information on the format, objectives, and key questions for this
initiative.

UCSB faculty, staff, and advanced PhD students who are interested in
participating should make a formal application submission online from
the address noted above. An application requires that you submit a 2-page
position paper and brief bio-sketch by 27 September. The paper should draw
on your experiences and expertise to address thoughts on opportunities for
spatially enabled smart campuses and ideas on resolving the technical and
policy challenges for broad-scale implementation. Applicants will be
notified on decisions by 11 October..

Yours sincerely,

Don Janelle, on behalf of The Smart Campus Organizing Committee:
- Werner Kuhn (Chair), Director of the Center for Spatial Studies and the
Jack and Laura Dangermond Professor of Geography, UCSB
- Michael Gould, Global Education Manager, Esri
- Donald Janelle, Research Professor and Program Director, Center for
Spatial Studies, UCSB
- Maureen Lovegreen, Executive Officer of the Department of Geography and
Director of Campus Sustainability for UCSB****
