Subject: Yann Riche visit

Hi,

Yann Riche from Microsoft is visiting April 9th (I know!) and has a
background HCI, but recently he has been working on issues of API design
and usability (among many other things). He will be free after my class
at 11 if you or your students are interested in meeting with him. If you
can think of anyone else that might be interested please feel free to
forward this along. Bio below.

Thanks!

-Tim

Yann Riche is a user experience and academic researcher currently working
at Microsoft corporation in Redmond, WA. His interests lie in how
technology can support productivity, social behaviors, communities, and
sustainable behaviors. His work takes place at the intersection of
Software Engineering, Computer Supported Collaborative Work, and Computer
Mediated Communication. His current focus at Microsoft revolves around the
user experience of developers, ranging from editor experience to API and
documentation usability. In this context, Yann conducts formative ad
evaluative studies to help inspire and inform the next generation of
tools, services, and APIs to help developers create the next digital
revolution. Yann obtained his Ph.D. in Human Computer Interactions in 2008
for his research on designing communication devices to support aging in
place. In his thesis, he described the PeerCare approach for aging in
place, which advocates the support of peer reciprocal care amongst seniors
in the community. In particular, he designed, implemented, and studied
markerClock, a communicating clock allowing elderly friends to establish a
socially acceptable shared awareness building upon life rhythm awareness
and communication routines. His work has been published in venues
including the ACM SIGCHI annual conference and other major international
scientific venues.
