Hi Everyone,
On Friday at 1pm we will have the final episode in our epic trilogy of
lunchtime "paper writing" talks. This week will focus on do's and don'ts
for both sides of the peer review process. The discussion is likely to
involve revisiting some points from the earlier talks by Jon and Cha.
I was thinking of the following collaborative format:
1: I will give an intro about paper reviewing, and how best to keep
reviewers happy with good writing and organization of a paper. This will
be based on published how-tos and on my own experiences.
2: Peer review is something that many of us already have interesting
stories about. I was hoping to gather a few example points from our
collective experiences with conference/journal reviews, and discuss these
as a group. So, if you have an interesting general point and/or useful
comments from reviewers of your papers, particularly ones that "taught you
a lesson", it would be great if you could share them with everyone on
Friday. If you have such examples, please email me with: {venue, year,
very short description} and I will compile a list to go through on Friday.
If it is necessary to show the paper for you to describe the point, please
send a pdf or link to that too.
3: I will present a short conclusion of the major points from the three
talks. (Jon / Cha, I will get your input for this in a separate email)
NOTE: The collaborative format will only work if everyone chips in, so
please don't be shy sending your examples!!
Thanks!
-John
