Subject: Talk tomorrow: Yulia Gizatdinova, University of Tampere

As previously mentioned, Yulia Gizatdinova, from the University of Tampere,
will visit the lab tomorrow and will give a talk at 11:00am on the
vision-based interaction research going on in the TAUCHI group (where I
stayed for part of last summer). Part of the reason for the visit is to look
for possible research collaborations between our groups. Yulia may also be
visiting for a week or two sometime in the coming academic year.

Since this is before the start of the quarter, and many people may not be
around, I hope you'll come to her talk if you are able to.

Thanks,

            Matthew

Speaker: Yulia Gizatdinova, University of Tampere

Title: Vision-Based Human Computer Interaction

Friday, January 6

11:00am, MAT Conference Room

Abstract:

I will give an overview of recent and ongoing research in the

TAUCHI unit at the University of Tampere, with a focus on vision-based

human-computer interaction. I'll present several research

projects which aim at developing innovative vision-based user

interfaces and investigating their applicability and usability in a

number of prospective application areas such as computer

accessibility, smart environments, entertainment and gaming.

Bio:

Yulia Gizatdinova obtained her MSc in Physics from the Rostov State

University, Russia in 2002. Then she joined Tampere Unit for Computer

Human Interaction (TAUCHI) at the University of Tampere (UTA),

Finland. In 2009, she received her PhD in Interactive Technology on

the topic "Automatic detection of face and facial features from images

of neutral and expressive faces." Her current research interests

include computer vision, vision-based perceptual user interfaces and

human-computer interaction.
