Subject: ETH social study participants
To:
I'm looking for a few more participants for my study, so I thought I
would ask you fine people if you know of anyone interested in
participating.
Again, here is the info on the study for those interested. Thanks!

Some information on the study
The purpose of this study is to examine the role of online social
networks in predicting users' real-world activities. Through this
study we hope to provide valuable insight into the link between online
interactions and real-world activities. The results of this study aim
to augment current mobile location based services, enhance emergency
response tactics and improve security intelligence models. In exchange
for your participation in this study, I am happy to offer you a gift
card in the amount of $20 to one of Starbucks, Amazon or iTunes (not a
lot but all I can afford right now)!
This study requests your participation over a three week period in two areas:
Complete a daily activity diary.
The purpose of the diary is to provide an hourly account of your
activities. As mentioned above, an Activity is marked by a change in
location. We ask that you keep track of your activities via the online
calendar for three consecutive weeks. This should take you no more
than five minutes per day.
Allow access to basic Facebook details
The second step is to allow the ETH Social Prediction Application
access to your basic Facebook profile information and social
activities. This application gathers your profile information as well
as your wall contributions. The data gathered is no different than any
of the information your Facebook Friends see. The application will
gather data for the same three consecutive weeks as the activity
diary. Other than allowing access to the application, no other
participation is required in this step.
Privacy
Your privacy is immensely important to the researchers involved in
this study. We WILL NEVER access your private messages (e.g., inbox,
sent etc), access your friends' timelines or post on your behalf. The
application only accesses your content in the same way your Facebook
friends would. When allowing access to the app, Facebook will prompt
you and describe (in detail) which aspects of your profile the ETH
Social Prediction Application will have access to, so that you are
informed and feel comfortable with the level of information being
shared.
Your social network profile information will be stored in a secure
database (hosted at ETH Zürich), separate from your activity diary (on
a different database) as a data security measure. The information
gathered from this study will only be accessible to the primary
researcher (Grant McKenzie) and his advisor (Prof. Dr. Martin Raubal).
Upon completion of the study, you will be notified via email with
steps on how to remove the ETH Social Prediction Application, thus
cutting off access to your facebook data.
If you have any concerns at all regarding this study, please feel free
to email Grant McKenzie (principal researcher) at grantm at ethz.ch or
Prof. Dr. Martin Raubal (advisor) at mraubal at ethz.ch.
If you are willing to participate, please reply to this email and I
will send you "log in" credentials along with next steps. If you are
unable to participate, please simply reply to this email with a "No
thank you" and I won't bug you again...
I really appreciate you taking the time to consider participating in this study.
Grant McKenzie
