Hey everyone,
I was at the Coachella music festival this past weekend and (to my
surprise) came across something relevant to the lab. During one of the
performances a hologram of the famous deceased rapper Tupac Shakur came on
stage and performed. The hologram looked incredibly real and has quite a
bit of space to move around in. I had always heard that this sort of
technology existed but didn't realize it was being used in practice for
large venues yet. Here is an
article<http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-501465_162-57415126-501465/tupac-coachella-hologram-behind-the-technology/>
describing
some of the technology behind it done by a company called AV
Concepts<http://www.avconcepts.com/>
.
It's pretty cool but scary to imagine going to concerts of holograms in the
future. On the one hand, it would be cool to simultaneously broadcast a big
concert like Live 8 to cities all over the world to provide access for
people to see the show. On the other hand, maybe bands would stop touring
and just be able to send out their holograms to tour for them. Either way,
I think it's an interesting use of technology in our field
