Rambus Labs, the research arm of Rambus, Inc. is seeking research scientists
and engineers to invent and support the development of new methods and
systems for computational sensing and imaging. We have an opening in optics
and optical design. Rambus Labs has the explicit charter of performing
research with a horizon longer than is traditional in most corporate
research environments.

Responsibilities:

. Work with a small interdisciplinary research team (image processing,
computer vision, DSP architect, experimental optical system engineering, .)
inventing and patenting key technology and prototyping systems in
application-specific sensing and imaging, particularly in mobile and
networked environments
. Keep abreast of research developments at conferences and journals, as well
to present your results in these venues
. Invent and help obtain patents on our research results
. Work with the research team to transfer the inventions and designs to
Rambus development teams
. Occasionally help present our innovations to external corporate partners
and customers, all in support of Rambus' mission of driving broad market
adoption of our technology

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated creativity in identifying and
inventing new optical sensor systems and have the following domain expertise
and experience:

. A PhD in optical sciences, electrical engineering, physics or computer
science; post-degree experience in industry or the academy is desirable
. Graduate-school level knowledge of ray and wave optics, sub-wavelength
structures, photon statistics, coherent and incoherent imaging, holography,
spectroscopy, etc.
. Knowledge of novel optical systems, computational photography, light-field
cameras, etc.
. Demonstrated expertise in optical design software tools such as Zemax,
Code V, OSLO, etc.
. Research level coding skills in Matlab, C, C++, Mathematica
. Strong mathematical skills, including linear and nonlinear analysis,
optimization theory, transform theory, etc.
. Knowledge of statistics, distribution theory, estimation theory and
Bayesian analysis
. Knowledge of basic image processing is desirable
. Experience with optical bench prototyping is desirable
. Creativity and the ability to identify and solve technical problems
. Excellent communication skills to technical and non-technical communities,
