Hi Dr. Turk:

 

I hope you can help me.  I have been retained to help United Technologies
Research Center recruit a Principal Engineer/Scientist-Perception and a
Principal Scientist Computer Vision and Video Surveillance.   Both positions
are described below and require candidates to be either a U.S. Citizens or
Permanent Residents.  Interested and qualified candidates should contact me
for further information.

 

Principal Engineer/Scientist-Perception

 

Key skills include target detection, video for navigation, object
tracking/recognition from image and range data, LIDAR, Range Sensing, Visual
Navigation, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), Sensor Fusion,

 

The candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary,
multinational team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner
with leading, worldwide institutions (university, government agencies,
national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational
objectives. The candidate will have exceptional communication skills,
capable of interacting with UTRC senior management while also being able to
mentor junior members of the technical staff. The candidate must be able to
provide timely, accurate and detailed reports and presentations. 

 

Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to: 

 

*	Act as principal investigator, leading multidisciplinary teams
focused on creative, integrated solutions for business and technical
challenges in simultaneous localization and mapping, video for navigation,
multimodal sensor data fusion, and decision making processes from the
navigational information. 
*	Provide technical leadership and direction in the areas of
detection, classification and tracking of multiple agents in an urban
environment, as well as real-time autonomous trajectory re-planning.
Additionally, there is the expectation to serve as a technical resource to
others, including being a member of technical review boards. 
*	Identify and champion promising technical innovations for UTC
Business units through knowledge of the state-of-the-art in fields related
to perception for navigation, the establishment of partnerships with
universities, national labs, and government / military institutions. 
*	Source and evaluate new technology for UTC; create and leverage
internal and external partnerships, especially with government agencies;
create opportunities through the acquisition of contract awards. 
*	Foster development of creativity and technical excellence in others.

*	Author technical papers; be active in internal and external
networks. 

 

Preferred: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, plus 5-8 years of industrial or
academic experience after completion of the Ph.D. in disciplines as outlined
above. M.S. with 8-10 years industrial experience may be considered. -
Expert knowledge and a minimum of 5-8 years of industrial or academic
experience (post M.S

Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to successfully
achieve desired technical outcomes within time and budget constraints. 

*	Demonstrated ability to write proposals and win external
funding/contracts/grants. 
*	Record of technical contributions, including patents and
publications in refereed technical journals. 
*	Proven success in innovative, strategic and technical thinking;
willingness to champion and challenge new technical ideas; and experience in
applying work to real-world applications. 
*	Excellent communication and leadership skills; innovative strategic
and technical thinker; high energy; team player. 

 

 

Principal Scientist-Computer Vision & Video Surveillance

 

Key skills include Video Analytics, Object Detection and Tracking, Object
Recognition, Activity & Event Recognition, Content Based Indexing &
Retrieval or Computational Photography

Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to: 

1. Provide technical leadership and direction and serve as a technical
resource to others, including being a member of technical review boards. 
2. Act as principal investigator, leading multidisciplinary teams developing
integrated solutions for UTC business units and focusing on creative
solutions to technical challenges in computer vision and video surveillance.

3. Identify and champion promising technical innovations for UTC business
units through the establishment of partnerships with university, national
labs and other world-class institutions. 
4. Create opportunities through the acquisition of contract awards, source
and evaluate new technology for UTC; create and leverage internal and
external partnerships
5. Foster development of creativity and technical excellence in others. 
6. Author technical papers; be active in relevant technical communities. 

Education/Experience Required: 

Preferred: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, plus 10 years of industrial or
academic experience after completion of the Ph.D. in disciplines in the Key
Skills listed above.   

- Expert knowledge and a minimum of 10 years of industrial or academic
experience (post M.S.) in at least three of the following fields: object
detection and tracking, object recognition,   

  activity and event recognition, content-based indexing and retrieval,
computational photography. 
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to successfully
achieve desired technical outcomes within time and budget constraints. 
- Demonstrated ability to write proposals and win external
funding/contracts/grants. 
- Record of technical contributions, including patents and publications in
refereed technical journals and major conferences in computer vision 
- Proven success in innovative strategic and technical thinking, willingness
to champion and challenge new technical ideas, and experience in applying
work to real-world applications. 
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; innovative strategic and
technical thinker; high energy; team player. 
- Demonstrated team leadership in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural
industrial applications is a plus.
