Principal/Staff/Scientist, Computer Vision & Video Surveillance
United Technologies Corporation, a Fortune top 50 company is a dynamic
global corporation operating at the leading edge of commercial and military
aviation, aerospace systems, climate control, elevator design, security and
fire protection as well as hydrogen fuel cell development. The Systems
department at the United Technologies Research Center has open position(s)
in the area of Computer Vision and Video Surveillance at the level of
Principal, Staff or Scientist depending on qualifications.
The candidate is expected to interact with United Technologies Corporation
(UTC) business units to provide technical expertise in existing programs,
create opportunities, including the acquisition of contract awards, assist
in setting strategic technical agenda and provide leadership to efforts
involving computer vision and video surveillance. Additionally, this
individual will be called upon to outline future business opportunities and
to provide technological and business solutions in response to UTC business
unit requirements.
Successful candidates should demonstrate outstanding track records in 3 or
more of the following fields:
1. Object detection and tracking
2. Object recognition
3. Activity and event recognition
4. Content-based indexing and retrieval
5. Computational photography.
The candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary,
multinational team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner
with leading, worldwide institutions (university, government agencies,
national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational
objectives. The candidate will have exceptional communication skills,
capable of interacting with UTRC senior management while also being able to
mentor junior members of the technical staff.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to:
Provide technical leadership and direction and serve as a technical resource
to others, including being a member of technical review boards.
Act as principal investigator, leading multidisciplinary teams developing
integrated solutions for UTC business units and focusing on creative
solutions to technical challenges in computer vision and video surveillance.
Identify and champion promising technical innovations for UTC business units
through the establishment of partnerships with university, national labs and
other world-class institutions.
Create opportunities through the acquisition of contract awards, source and
evaluate new technology for UTC; create and leverage internal and external
partnerships
Foster development of creativity and technical excellence in others.
Author technical papers; be active in relevant technical communities.
Education/Experience Required:
M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Mathematics,
Statistics, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of industrial or
academic experience (post M.S.).
Preferred: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, plus 5-8 years of industrial or
academic experience after completion of the Ph.D. in disciplines as outlined
above.
- Expert knowledge and a minimum of 5-10 years of industrial or academic
experience (post M.S.) in at least three of the following fields: object
detection and tracking, object recognition,
activity and event recognition, content-based indexing and retrieval,
computational photography.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to successfully
achieve desired technical outcomes within time and budget constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to write proposals and win external
funding/contracts/grants.
- Record of technical contributions, including patents and publications in
refereed technical journals and major conferences in computer vision
- Proven success in innovative strategic and technical thinking, willingness
to champion and challenge new technical ideas, and experience in applying
work to real-world applications.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; innovative strategic and
technical thinker; high energy; team player.
- Demonstrated team leadership in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural
industrial applications is a plus.
Proof of American Citizenship or Permanent US Residence is required for this
position.
