To review our discussion of lab jobs yesterday:
1. Systems: Cha, Chris, and Mock
Responsible for general system administration, including network security
and backups.
Action items: Consider the main issues of lab firewalls, backups, and
servers. What should be moved to the Foglab from the trailer, for better
support? Any new hardware needed? Coordinate with CS Support and MAT
Support. Also, shut down Majuro for now and make sure all computers
(especially in the trailer) are patched up-to-date.
Also, Alex will look into wireless in the trailer. (No one seems to know
what happened to the old wireless router.)
2. Web: Steffen, Jon, John, Alex
Responsible for making sure we communicate an accurate, up-to-date, and
dynamic picture of the lab, especially for the outside world to view.
Action items: Consider the possibility of a content management system or
some way to make things easier to update frequently. All parts of the web
need to be updated - announcements, people, research projects, publications
(PDFs!), demos, etc.
3. Office/atmosphere/equipment: Brynyar and Sehwan
Responsible for lab printers, water, refrigerator, microwaves, furniture,
general equipment, and overall order and cleanliness (which may mean telling
people to clean up after themselves). Also, physical security (locking
windows, making sure people are aware of security issues and procedures,
etc.).
Action items: Need to locate and keep track of our equipment - both immobile
(workstations, etc.) and mobile (cameras, etc.)
Other notes:
- Steve Ellis from NASA visits this afternoon.
- Hang-Bong Kang from Korea will re-join the lab next week to stay
until September.
- I'll forward the latest email from CS Support about the unpatched
system vulnerability.
- Maybe we'll schedule a "lab day" for lab work in the coming months.
- Ismo leaves in mid-February - time to plan a goodbye party.
Thanks,
Matthew
