[4eyes] experience with LaTeX- submissions to journals (esp. Springer, e.g. IJCV) ?

Hi all,

does anyone have experience with submitting LaTeX manuscripts to 
Springer journals (e.g. IJCV) ?
If so please let me know... I'm a little confused by their guidelines of 
how to submit the manuscript and figures.

Specifically, does it have to compile with latex or pdflatex?
They mention .eps and .tif as preferred formats, but the former doesn't 
work with pdflatex and the latter not with latex, so...??

Any hints appreciated.
