Subject: Brown CS faculty opening in graphics and related areas
Dear Matthew,
Brown Computer Science is hiring this year. Our search is aimed
specifically at candidates in graphics and related areas. Please
direct strong candidates to our online application website
http://facsearch.cs.brown.edu.
We construe "graphics and related areas" broadly: we look forward to
candidates not only in core graphics but also in computational
photography, computer vision, HCI, and more. We're open-minded; if you
think an area's broadly related to graphics, we probably do too. We
especially encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented
minorities.
Brown's a great place to work. We have wonderful students, a beautiful
campus, and an exciting team of researchers in graphics and
vision, spread across many departments. These include Andy van Dam,
David Laidlaw, John Hughes, Michael Black, and Chad Jenkins (all in CS),
Gabriel Taubin, Dave Cooper, and Ben Kimia (Engineering), Stu Geman
(Applied Math), and Mike Tarr (CogSci). There's also a top-notch
Institute for Brain Science, and a new center for vision research.
We're adjacent to RISD, the Rhode Island School of Design, one of the
nation's top fine arts and design schools.
Finally, Brown's location has many advantages. We are part of the
rich intellectual atmosphere of greater Boston, with easy access by
train. Providence is itself a charming and livable city, big enough
to have its own independent cultural scene, enriched by RISD and a
strong culinary school.
Feel free to forward this to any candidates you can think of, or send
us names of ones you want us to contact.
The deadline for full consideration of applications is January 5, 2009.
Thanks in advance on behalf of the search committee,
John Hughes
